Bulk earthworks refurbishment of the Lark Hill 15 metre sand training track.

Project overview
Racing and Wagering Western Australia awarded Tracc Civil the refurbishment works for the Lark Hill 15 metre sand track.
The track is used for thoroughbred training and required improvement after the base beneath the sand profile prevented proper water drainage. During wet periods, this limited the track’s usability and reduced reliability for trainers and riders.
Scope of works
Tracc Civil’s scope centred on bulk earthworks and track refurbishment.
Works included removal, treatment and reuse of the existing sand profile where suitable, reshaping of the track base and preparation of the surface to improve drainage performance.
The project also required controlled plant movement, defined no-entry areas and clear site separation to maintain safe operations around an active equine training environment.
The refurbishment improves the reliability of a key training asset at Lark Hill by addressing the drainage issues that previously affected use during wet conditions. For trainers and the wider racing community, a more dependable sand track supports regular training access and helps maintain the function of Lark Hill as an important facility in the Rockingham area.
Lark Hill Track was subsequently reopened the public for race meets and in-person attendance after the 20-year hiatus due to the track conditions.
