The installation of the Waikiki community battery bank was Western Power’s response to the rapidly growing population in the Port Kennedy and Secret Harbour areas, where solar uptake was exacerbating thermal and capacity constraints on local feeders.

Scope:
  • Installation of Medium Voltage Battery Energy Storage System with associated distribution substation, 1MVA transformer, Ring Main Unit, Main Switchboard, and SCADA control equipment.
  • Works included site clearance, ground preparation, bulk earthworks, concrete aprons, and vehicle entrance crossover.
  • Provision of all traffic management on the Warnbro Sound Avenue dual carriageway.
  • Supply and install new palisade security fencing around the new infrastructure.
