Tracc Civil was contracted to construct Stage 1 civils of this subdivision in 2020 and has negotiated the following stages. Currently we are completing stages 17 to 20 and 27. The works comprised the removal of the existing grass and vegetation onsite, import fill, and construction of the civil works.
Challenges faced included the high-water table in the area as well as the local water channels draining the water out of the surrounding area past the site. In addition, a noise bund was required to be constructed adjacent the Kwinana Freeway.
Tracc utilised an alternative method of stripping the topsoil, and at the same time dug a swale around the outer edge of the import fill areas. Tracc also diverted any existing drains running through the works area at the same time.
Dewatering effluent was pumped across the site and into one of these drains to prevent water build-up within the site. Any soil excavated below the fill layer in the deeper trenches was reused as fill in the lower part to preserve the clean fill in the top layer.
The noise bund was constructed of the excess topsoil and clay materials, with the clay being placed first and topsoil on the top layer. Due to the narrowness of the top, Tracc constructed this bund in multiple lifts, with an excavator trimming the batters and top to shape.
