Overview

Tracc Civil will provided the work to duplicate Berrigan Drive between the Kwinana Freeway and Jandakot Road. The 30 week project included extending Berrigan Drive by 700m, changing the roundabout at Dean Road and Jandakot Road into traffic lights, and building a new road (1.7km)  to link the revised junction with Pilatus Street (formerly Orion Road) at Jandakot Airport.

Scope of work included the following

  • Work would need to be completed in 3 separate stages

  • Road widening of an existing carriageway by duplicating two existing lanes to provide two lanes in each direction, divided by a median island, including cycling lanes on both sides of the road

  • Construction of .55km new single carriageway road to tie into existing Pilatus Street within Jandakot airport

  • Removal of roundabout and replacing it with a new traffic controlled intersection as well as a new 3 -way intersection at Berrigan Drive north & Pilatus Street

  • Car Parking Bays and Lighting

  • Roads, Footpaths, Crash Barriers and Bollards

  • Street Signs and Retaining Walls

  • Stormwater Drains, Pits and Basins and Outlet Sump

  • Cross overs to Private Property

  • Underpass Modifications

  • Uniform Fences and Fences to Private Property

  • Underground Utility Services

  • Street Lighting Works (for Western Power and Atco Gas)

  • Rip Rap (culverts)

  • Water Bore Pump and Switch Gear

  • Relocation of Wall Monument

Project Challenges

With 16 000 vehicles using the road every day, complex traffic management is a challenge.

 

Managing These Challenges

Tracc Civil worked with the City to ensure the most efficient traffic management plan and temporary traffic controls are in place at all times.

Continual public consultation and interface with service providers were required.
